In Spain, the persimmon season has already started in the production areas of the Comunitat Valenciana region, and the LA UNIÓ de Llauradors producers' organization expects a volume 27% lower than last season.
According to first estimates, the persimmon harvest should reach 315,000 tonnes, a reduction of 27% compared to last season. A volume which should help the market to absorb the expected production without any problem.
The fruit is judged to be of excellent quality. In addition, the expected strong demand for Spanish citrus, due to COVID19, could also have a positive impact on the increase in persimmon consumption and therefore also on the price paid to producers.
