Strawberry and raspberry farmers in the Zamora Valley (Michoacán, Mexico) are facing major challenges due to climate change, which is affecting the health of their crops. After eight years of experience in this field, one local grower has had to adapt his cultivation methods to combat drought-induced stress and extreme heat, using amino acids and seaweed to stimulate production.

In addition, rising labor costs, water shortages and well regulation by the Michoacán government are affecting the viability of his business. This has led the farmer to plan a reduction in raspberry acreage and to reconsider his strategies for optimizing water use.

Although the Zamora valley is known for its large strawberry crops, with an annual production of 112,854 tons, the impact of climate change and government policies could drastically change this scenario in the coming years.
