Ica accelerates exports to cover the gap left by Piura.
In the 50th week of the 2024-2025 Peruvian grape export season, shipments from Piura and Ica have grown significantly. Piura, in particular, saw a 29% increase compared to last season, exporting 25.6 million boxes, up from 19.8 million in 2023-2024, according to agricultural analyst Adam Formica.
The season in Piura is closing with significantly higher volumes, peaking in week 48 and now declining. This early closure, driven by high volume between weeks 45 and 49, could make a difference compared to previous longer seasons, Formica explained.
Ica is accelerating its exports, doubling same-date figures during the 2022-2023 season. Through week 50, the region has exported 6.5 million boxes, a volume that represents an effort to cover the gap expected after the early closure in Piura. Exports in Ica appear to be one to two weeks ahead of last season, possibly to balance the reduction in Piura, the analyst added.
In total, Piura and Ica have exported 32.2 million boxes of grapes through week 50. This impressive result underscores the ability of both regions to adapt to international market demands and overcome logistical challenges.
The 2024-2025 campaign not only highlights the growth of both regions, but also the strengthening of the Peruvian grape industry in global markets. With an early closure in Piura and an acceleration in Ica, Peru demonstrates its ability to adapt and maintain its position as one of the world's leading grape exporters.
