Bankrupt Kmart : largest US retail failure

Kmart became the largest US retailer ever to declare bankruptcy. It has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after it was unable to meet payments to its vendors and creditors. The US economy slowdown and, above all, the price war between Kmart and US n°1 Wal-Mart are at the origin of a USD344 million loss between February and October 2001.
