Peru’s Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), through the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA), has released a new artichoke variety — INIA 106 Concepción — designed to significantly increase productivity and profitability for small and medium-sized farmers in the Junín region.
Developed by INIA’s Santa Ana Experimental Station, this variety delivers yields above 15 tonnes per hectare, offers high propagation rates, and shows strong tolerance to pests and diseases. It is adaptable to diverse climate and soil conditions, particularly in the Peruvian highlands, making it a robust and scalable option for local producers.
The initiative supports efforts to strengthen food security, improve land use efficiency, and offer resilient crop alternatives that enhance farmer income in high-altitude agricultural zones.
