In Great Britain, the unusually cool spring has created perfect growing conditions for bilberries.
According to local media reports, British blueberry growers are forecasting a bumper crop. The best ever, according to some. The harvest began in mid-June and will last until mid-September.
Large volumes of blueberries are imported, particularly from Peru, but the market for home-grown blueberries has been recording excellent growth rates for several years (+30%). The 2024 harvest should add to this good performance.
National production is around 6,000 tonnes of bilberries a year.
