Artichoke season in Spain is in full swing

The artichoke season in Spain began in November and, according to data from the Spanish Artichoke consortium, the total harvest volume will reach around 220,000 tons.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), the Region of Murcia is the largest producer of artichoke in the country, with 89,821 tons registered in the 2021 season, followed by the Valencian Community, with 66,867 T; Andalusia, with 22,435 T; Navarre, with 11,794 T; Catalonia, with 7,752 T and La Rioja, with 2,000 T.
According to the union, 30% of the national production is destined for export, especially to France, Switzerland and Germany, the markets that require the largest calibers of fresh artichokes, around 800 grams. 60% of the total production goes to the canned and frozen industry.
