Large potential exports of potatoes
MD
Pakistan, which usually exports its potatoes to Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore and Iran opens its products to a new market: Russia.
The Russian demand for potatoes is important, and Pakistan could export 120,000 to 125,000 metric tons of potatoes which would bring millions of dollars in revenue. In 2009-10, total exports of fresh and chilled potatoes reported 50.267 million dollars to 245,329,000 kilograms shipped.
An automated factory for cleaning has been established. This first factory in the country will make the potatoes more in line with international market standards.
The total domestic production was about 2.94 million tons in 2008-09. Domestic demand for potatoes is about 1.5 million tons, leaving 1.4 million metric tons available for export.
