Fruit vegetable's prices under the lens
France
Thursday 10 July 2008
The first indicator will compare the average price of one kilo of fruit and vegetables - the most consumed of the month - throughout different distribution channels (hypermarkets, supermarkets, hard discount, wholesale markets). The examination will rely on prices provided by a group of experts of the TNS World Panels’ board, comprising 12,000 consumers.
“The first comparisons have shown that it is possible to consume the quantity of fruit and vegetables recommended by PNS (National Programme for Nutrition and Health, that is the “five a day”) spending 1.50 euros per day for two persons by buying in large retailers”, FCD explained.
The second indicator, whose goal is to promote in-season fruit and vegetables consumption, will be established by Eurofins’ laboratory. This will fix a sample of one kilo of in-season fruit and vegetables from three different warehouses. “We want to demonstrate that fruit and vegetables consumption is accessible at large scale”, FCD pointed out.
These two monthly indicators will be published in FCD’s website www.fcd.asso.fr until the end of June.
