Big demonstration in Berlin after a week of action

To express their opposition to the federal government's budget cuts
farmers, the transport sector, freight forwarders and truckers staged a large demonstration in Berlin in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
The demonstration in front of the Brandenburg Gate took place on January 15 at 11:30 am. Some 6,000 vehicles (tractors and lorries) were present, as well as 30,000 demonstrators, according to estimates by farmers' associations.
The demonstration was the culmination of a week of action by farmers against budget cuts by the federal government. In particular, the elimination of the farm diesel subsidy, which has existed for decades.
To maintain competitive agriculture, and thus the existence of farmers and medium-sized transport companies, support for agricultural diesel and exemption from vehicle tax are essential.
