The state of Nevada allows the first " driverless " truck

Taxi clearance for the first truck developed by the German firm Daimler and allows the driver to ride without holding the steering wheel at all times.

This truck , called " Freightliner Inspiration " is not really an autonomous vehicle such as Google Car. You need a driver on board but it is no longer required to hold the wheel. The "driver" should only monitor various data analyzing the functioning of the truck.

The heavyweight is equipped with sensors and cameras , the choice of parameters (speed, distance to other vehicles, braking, steering ) and data controls are via a tablet. However, in case of problems the "driver" can regain control at any time.The Daimler Group expects for 2025 the mass production and marketing (USA , Europe).
