Spain: tomato headed vegetable exports in 2007

Tomato was the most exported Spanish vegetable in 2007, with a total export value of 862 million euros, along with peppers (EUR 494 Million) and lettuce (EUR 459 Million). The total value of the country’s vegetable exports in 2007 went up by 2.81% over 2006, reaching a volume of 3.305 billion euros, according to data compiled by the Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers/Exporters (FEPEX) released by The Spanish Customs Service.
The area assigned to the tomato crop in Spain totalled 11,890 ha in January 2008, an increase of 1.1% compared with January 2007. These figures were announced recently by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). The larger area will lead to a 2.5% increase in production in 2008, MAPA forecasts.
