Chiquita's dispute over
Panama
Friday 26 October 2001
Banana workers have reached an agreement with Chiquita's Panamanian subsidiary for which high production costs and recent strike in plantations cost millions of dollars. One month ago, indeed, the company stopped Chiquita banana exports from Puertes Armuelles because of an insufficient fruit quality. This agreement then requires workers to find better picking and packing methods for bananas to be in better condition when leaving the port.
