The decline in exported volumes is estimated at a quarter compared to the previous season.
Difficult start of the year for Dutch onion exports, with volumes shipped considerably lower than in the same period in 2018.
GroentenFruit Huis estimates that the current export season is a quarter lower compared to the 2017/2018 season. According to the organization's figures, during the first 12 weeks of this year, onion exports were 110,000 tonnes lower than in 2018 during the same period.
The provisional seasonal total for 2018/19 exceeds 700 000 tonnes. The high prices and the greatly reduced stocks of the onion harvest, already moderate, are the main reasons.
Exports to Germany, Israel and Italy increased, but much less onions were exported to Senegal, Mauritania and Mali. In week 12, about 60% of exports were destined for European countries.
