In Switzerland, the supply of apples will mainly consist of imported apples until the beginning of the new harvest.
In Switzerland, the weak national harvest has led to low inventories, which are rapidly declining and will lead to increased imports of apples to join the new crop.
According to the national organizations, only 3 119 tonnes of Swiss apples were available at the end of May 2018. The Golden Delicious stocks were estimated at 2 317 tonnes and should be sufficient until mid-July. The stocks of the Club varieties ( Jazz, Pink Lady ...) were much more limited, only 532 tons to cover needs until mid-June.
Apples have been able to be imported into Switzerland on an unlimited basis since 1 May 2018. The country imported 5 846 tonnes of apples in May.
