Organics: next IFOAM congress in Asia

South Korea and Taiwan are candidate to host in three years the next edition of the congress organized by IFOAM, the International Federation of Organics Agriculture Movements joining representatives from 108 Countries. This year congress “Cultivate the Future” concluded last Friday 20th of June in Italian town of Modena after five days of interesting seminars.
IFOAM managing board will make the choice in the next days, by meeting again in Modena to enlighten the new strategies that should be implemented for the development of organic agriculture worldwide.
Over 1,700 lecturers were protagonists in Modena, as well as 700 scientific reports presented in around 100 panels during the Congress.
“Cultivate the Future” was defined as a “sustainable event” for its minimal impact on environment. Around 5,500 “bio” meals were served with biodegradable forks and glasses; for the delegates’ transfers public transports and foot walks were the preferred means. Furthermore, to guarantee the absorption of carbon dioxide in equivalent volumes to that produced through the various events, reforestation projects in Costa Rica and in the Modena surroundings will be funded. Finally, around 20,000 litres of water were saved: Hera distributors installed in the Congress’ locations supplied from the urban network fresh - still or sparkling – water.
