Seasonal offering of Frost Kissed® artichokes has started
Ocean Mist Farms, one of the leading U.S. growers and marketers of fresh artichokes, announced the first Frost Kissed crop of the season. These artichokes are currently shipping to retailers and will be periodically available throughout the winter.
This limited-time offering has a slightly darker exterior as once the temperature drops below 32 degrees, the artichokes' skin darkens due to the freezing conditions. This process enhances the flavor and provides a more nutty taste to the Frost Kissed artichokes. The brown outer layer of artichoke falls off after cooking, resulting shoppers in the green artichoke they are familiar with.
Diana McClean, senior director of marketing at Ocean Mist Farms, said the Frost Kissed artichokes offer an unusual flavor for a limited time that many shoppers look forward to experiencing after a frost. “These artichokes have a unique color to them that is strictly cosmetic and does not reflect the quality that are shoppers are accustomed to,” she added.
Aiming to make the Frost Kissed artichokes a satisfying menu item, Ocean Mist Farms will be provide recipe inspiration through its social media channels, as well as sharing information on the website to educate consumers. In addition, these artichokes will have a petal insert for easy recognition by shoppers.
