The lack of rainfall has led to a decline in the production of dates in Morocco.
Slowdown for the production of dates in Morocco which is far from reaching last year the record volume of 128,000 tons.
The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the country is producing 112,000 tons for the current year. This decrease compared to the 128,000 harvested in 2016 is the result of the scarcity of rainfall in the producing regions.
Morocco has more than 5 million date palms that cover about 50,000 hectares, it is the third largest producer in the Maghreb countries and the 7th largest in the world. The country has embarked on a major restructuring plan, including nearly 1.8 million palm trees already planted and has set a goal of planting 3 million palm trees by 2020.
