Riots and closing of market Pokrovskaya in Moscow

Racist manisfestations and police raid, around the wholesale markets of the Russian capital.

In Moscow, the murder of a young man few days caused indignation. Protests turned into a  xenophobic riot. As part of the investigation of the murder of the young Russian, a police raid on the wholesale market of Biryulyovo, led to the arrest of 1,200 people. The majority of arrested are from Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and were working on the wholesale market.

For the authorities, the murderer has connections with wholesale markets. The wholesale industry of fruits and vegetables  would be in the hands of gangs from the Caucasus and Central Asia. In order to continue the investigation, the authorities decided to close the market Pokrovskaya, the largest wholesale market in the city, initially for one day, then for 5 days. Now the period is extended to 90 days.
