The number of certified organic farms continues to grow

In the United States, the number of farms and certified organic farms has increased by 11% year-on-year and 56% since 2011.

 

 

 

According to the latest available data provided by the National Statistics Service of the Department of Agriculture, the number of certified organic farms reached 14,217, 11% more than in 2016 and 56% more than in 2011.

 

 

 

Despite this strong growth, organic agriculture still accounts for less than 1% of all US farmland. Vermont is the state where the percentage of organic farmland is highest: 11%. The states of California, Maine and New York follow the rankings, with a percentage of about 4% each.
