New European structure for Delhaize

As from 1 January 2012, the Group will establish a new organization called Delhaize Europe that will include the activities of Delhaize Belgium and South-East Europe.
The objectives of Delhaize Europe is to increase collaboration between European societies, generate cost savings and facilitate the exchange of best practices: to form a stronger platform for growth locally, regionally and globally.
Delhaize Europe will be led by Stefan Descheemaeker, currently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Delhaize Group and member of the Executive Committee of Delhaize Group.
From 1 January 2012, Delhaize Belgium and South-East Europe will report directly to Stefan Descheemaeker, who will continue to be executive vice president of Delhaize Group and member of its Executive Committee. Kostas Macheras, as a member of the Executive Committee of Delhaize Group, will continue to lead the activities of South East Europe as Chief Executive Officer of the region. Kostas Macheras will report to Stefan Descheemaeker from 1 January 2012.
Delhaize Group, originally a Belgian food retailer, is present in 11 countries on three continents. At the end of second quarter 2011, its sales network consisted of 2,842 stores. In 2010, Delhaize Group achieved revenues of EUR 20.8 billion and net income of EUR 574 million.
