WAPA, the association which brings together representatives of the main apple and pear producing and exporting countries, will celebrate its 20th anniversary in August 2021.
During the annual general meeting, the members of WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association) elected, for the next 2 years, a new president and a new vice-president.
WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association) held its annual general meeting online on March 31, 2021, which brought together representatives from the main apple and pear producing and exporting countries. A vote designated for the next 2 years the new president and the new vice-president.
Dominik Wozniak (Polish Society for Promotion of Dwarf Fruit Orchards) who was previously vice-president of WAPA, was elected new president; he succeeds Nicholas Dicey (South African Apple and Pear Association - Hortgro). The new vice president is Jeff Correa (director of the Pear Bureau Northwest, USA Pears).
The meeting also decided that given the ongoing health uncertainties, Prognosfruit 2021 will take place online on August 5, 2021, postponing the physical meeting in Serbia until 2022.
“I am very honored to take on the presidency of WAPA. I look forward to teaming up with Jeff to advance the apple and pear categories in consumer diets. In these days of renewed interest in fruits and vegetables and in particular apples and pears, we have a very favorable dynamic. Consumers are looking to strengthen their health and immune systems while consuming more sustainable products. We must therefore, as WAPA, seize this opportunity and better communicate the many health and environmental benefits of apples and pears, ”said Dominik Wozniak.
