Strawberries in greenhouses for export

These strawberries are grown on 20,000 hectare in south- eastern Turkey in Silifke , which is one of the most important areas of production, for a harvest of about 80 000 tonnes. 20,000 tons of this production would be exported to Russia and many other exporting countries at particularly attractive prices for the producer.

It is in the month of July that the planting is done and this are jobs for around 3,000 working families, not to mention the Syrian immigrants who have the opportunity to work in the fields themselves, too. It is the women particulary who are picking up the fruits.
