Metro plans to open 20 stores in the country

After China, India, Japan, Vietnam and Pakistan, Metro plans to continue its Asian expansion in Indonesia.
Indonesia has a definite potential: large population, fast-growing economy, strong domestic consumption, Metro Group has announced plans to open 20 outlets Metro Cash & Carry around the country, with a first store in 2012.
Indonesia has experienced a real boom in the distribution, a recent study showed that the number of stores jumped 38% between 2009 and 2010 and now stands at 18,152 outlets. Total revenue was estimated at 11.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2010.
Metro Cash & Carry will compete with other brands such as Giant (owned by PT Hero Supermarket), Hypermart (owned by PT Matahari Putra Prima), French Carrefour and the Korean Lotte Mart.
For the past 15 years, Metro Cash & Carry opened stores in 5 Asian countries (China, India, Japan, Vietnam and Pakistan), Indonesia would be the 31st country.
