The winner, Ron Wallace and his giant pumpkin of 2,009 pounds, a new world record.
An American farmer has set a new record with a giant pumpkin.
In the town of Topsfield, Massachusetts, the giant pumpkin contest is considered the Super Bowl of pumpkins. "New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off" capped Ron Wallace, who presented a pumpkin weighing 2,009 pounds, or 1 ton (911.26 kg).
Ron Wallace received a check for $5,500 for first
place and another $ 10,000 for being first surpass the 2,000 pounds.
The weight of 1,000 pounds was achieved in 2000. The new record of over 2,000 pounds was considered impossible to overcome. Some thought that the structure of the pumpkin could not bear this weight, others that it was impossible to develop this mass in a growing season, from one tiny seed.
