CSO has organized the presence of a group of Italian exhibitors

President M. Paolo Bruni presents FRESHNESS FROM EUROPE and the group of Italian exhibitors.

At the occasion of MAC FRUIT ATTRACTION CHINA, CSO the Italian organisation in charge of promotion of Italian Fruit & Vegetables exports has organized the presence of a group of Italian exhibitors.

 

President M. Paolo Bruni had presented FRESHNESS FROM EUROPE a triennal project financed by European Community for promotion on the following markets : Canada, USA, China, Japan & Middle East. President Bruni has pointed out the objective of this plan : ameliorate fruit & vegetables consumption together with outlining European products quality in the respect of European standards, favourised by territories excellence.

 

President Bruni has drawn a factual and concise state of the Italian market : « In Italy, 3 Million tons of fruit & vegetable have been exported, 2.5 Millions of these are fresh fruit & veg. Concerning apples, Italy grows 2.3 Millions tons of apples, which represents not less than 25% of European production, and ranks Italy as the first grower of apples in Europe, 1 Million tons of these are exported, 60% of that figure in Europe, 7% in Middle East. For Kiwis,  Italy is growing 570.000 tons of kiwis. It is also the first kiwis grower in Europe, and 2nd grower in the world after China. 350.000 tons of kiwis, which represents around 65% of Italian production of kiwis are exported, including Green, yellow and now red-flesh kiwis.

 

Apples and kiwis already have the phytosanitary authorisations to enter in China, pear is the next product with great short-term potential for Chinese market. Italy is growing 700.000 tons of pears, which represents 32% of European production, 20% of these volumes are exported. Main variety is Abate, and 70% of this variety is grown in Emilia Romagna region. Concerning pear exports, 93% is exported to Europe, 4% in Central & Eastern Europa. This variety is specially well adapted to Chinese taste who prefers sweet fruit. When you will taste abate pear, you will understand that my saying was not a marketing exercice but a true quality advice. We are right now working with Chinese authorities to realize all phytosanitary controls in order to get the autorisation to enter in China. »

 

When will the Italian pear authorised to enter in China ? President Bruni explained :  « Chinese authorities prefer to proceed with one product at a time, and they chose Pear. We have understood Chines authorities demand, and Chinese inspectors will come to check our quality control process in Italy. »
