Thanks to abundant rainfall, Morocco registered in 2008 a record high amount of fruit and vegetables production.
According to the figures released by the Agriculture ministry and reported in the daily paper l´Economiste, the harvest was expected to total 1.9 million tonnes, 10% over the previous year.
The ministry also said that about 850,000 tonnes would be destined to export (13% more than the 2007-2008 output).
Even the estimates for citrus fruits were well over the levels seen in previous years, with 1.4 million tonnes (10% over the previous year), of which about 652,000 tonnes were destined to international markets.
