In 2020 the EU imported over 5 million tonnes of bananas, the majority of which came from Latin America (Photo : labanane.info).
In 2020, the European Union imported a volume of 5 153 200 tonnes of bananas. From Latin America (+6.33%) and the African-Caribbean-Pacific countries (-2.78%)
According to data processed by Eurostat, in 2020 the EU market was supplied with 5,747,399 tonnes of bananas, i.e. +3.71% compared to 2019. Imports amounted to 5 153 200 tonnes, i.e.+4.8% compared to 2019.
The majority (75.7%) of imports came from Latin America, which supplied the EU with 4 349 306 tonnes of bananas, i.e.+6.33% compared to 2019.
The African-Caribbean-Pacific countries supplied the EU with 803 894 tonnes of bananas, i.e.-2.78% compared to 2019.
In 2020 the EU production reached 594 198 tonnes, i.e.-4.84% compared to 2019.
