Growing of own pea sprouts is now possible with a Schur®Star bag
Fresh pea sprouts from Grow Up FARM, Danish farm that grows micro greens, can now be grown in a bag of the Schur®Star, packager that also offers packaging machines and packaging systems.
Grow Up FARM has launched a brand-new product, named Eat-Grow-Repeat: small pea plants that grow in hemp in a bag. Initially, pea plants are grown in a vertical greenhouse, in a 100% controlled climate, with artificial lighting, recirculated water and without soil. Further, the project is realized thanks to the large capacity of the Schur®Star Packaging Machine. In the refrigerator and in bags, pea sprouts keeps fresh for a week. By ripping off the upper section of the bag, the bottom of the bag becomes a pot. After that, the bottom of the bag with pea plants is placed on the windowsill and, with the help of light and water, growth will continue, and in a few days, completely fresh sprouts of peas for the salad bowl will appear.
It is important that this bag is produced of polyethylene, a single layer material that does not require separation for processing in a recycling system, which means it corresponds to 100% compostable contents.
Originally, the Schur®Star Packaging Machine was planned only for the fully automatic packing of bean sprouts into reclosable bags, in which the sprouts do not desiccate in the refrigerator, but retain fresh for up to eight days. According to Lasse Vilmar, CEO at Grow Up FARM, Bean sprouts are their core product, for which the company chose the Schur®Star Concept. However, due to the packaging machine's versatility and high capacity, the company decided to speed up the start of the new Eat-Grow-Repeat project.
Schur is one of the Denmark's oldest companies that offers packaging, packaging machines and packaging systems. The company has a staff of approximately 850, which employs at factories in Denmark, Germany, Sweden, USA and Australia.
