A rare red-shelled pineapple from Costa Rica has gone viral after earning top marks in a video by one of the world’s most popular YouTube channels — known for its large-scale challenges and global audience of more than 50 million subscribers. The clip, which has already surpassed 8.7 million views, featured influencers who rated the fruit “100 out of 10,” calling it “incredible.”
The pineapple stands out for its deep red skin, golden-yellow flesh, and sweet, low-acid taste. It takes about two years to grow and is harvested without its crown, then packed in premium boxes. Because it’s grown in limited quantities and takes time to mature, it remains highly exclusive — with prices reaching around $400 per fruit in some U.S. markets.
The variety was developed over more than 15 years through selective cross-breeding, earning global recognition for its taste and appearance. Its viral success has drawn attention to Costa Rica’s innovation in fruit cultivation and its role as a leader in tropical produce.
