Fruit & Vegetable market
Poland
Tuesday 27 March 2007
Madness on the apple market. "Dessert" sort prices rose within a week about 10%, the variety "Rubin" about 20%. Experts say it's normal at this time of the year when fruit from coolstorage with control-climate are delivered, the goods are of much better quality but cost more.
However this is an end for such price-jumps. The demand is still growing but there is mainly continuing big volume of export to the east. About 30 TIR-s are leaving daily from Sandomierz (one of orchards area situated in south-east Poland) towards east.
Onion prices are achieving record level - but this will stop soon because an import from south part of the globe or Holland will push prices to 1 zloty/kg = EUR 0,25.
Here are some vegetable prices per kilo:
Carrot : EUR 0,15-0,20
Onion : EUR 0,20 - 0,25
Celery : EUR 0,22 - 0,31
Leek: EUR 0,38 - 0,62
Parsley: EUR - 0,38 - 0,57
Potato: EUR 0,20 - 0,38
Producers of cabbage are going through price disaster - on local markets where most of cultivation is cabbage, prices run down in pennies /top EUR price reach 0,03 per kilo/.
