Red Apricot of Roussillon in the process of obtaining the PDO

Consecration is in sight for the Apricot Red Roussillon.
The INAO (National Institute for Origin and Quality) has given the green light in early June to obtain the PDO (protected designation of origin). If there is no opposition by August 6, the PDO shall be definitive.
This PDO will crown the work of union apricot producers which began to take the steps in 2000. This quality will affect nearly 200 producers of Roussillon region.
The name "Red Apricot du Roussillon" includes varieties of Roussillon Red, Helena of Roussillon, Pampering and Royal Roussillon. The production of red apricots reached 6,000 tons from 12 000 tons produced in the department of Pyrénées-Orientales (66).
