Thursday 04 September 2008
Due to adverse climatic conditions, a production of 35,000 tons is expected in the area of Kasserine - which supplies 40% of the national production -, with a drop by 10,000 tons compared to the previous year.
The apple harvest is about to begin in Tunisia, ANSAmed news agency reports. In the governorate of Kasserine there are 2 million apple trees, on a surface of 5,750 sq km. In the same area, thanks to the works enabling the irrigation of 25,000 ha (against 9,000 ha in 1980), also apricots, peaches, watermelons and prickly pears are grown, mostly destined for exportation to the European and Maghreb markets. There are also 52 preservation units.
