The largest volume of fair trade is bananas.
For the first time since 2013, UK sales of fair trade products increased. These products grew by 2% and reached a turnover of 1.64 billion GBP in 2016.
In the United Kingdom, the largest volume of fair trade is bananas, whose sales grew by 6%. Popularity also increased for coffee as sales of cocoa and sugar fell.
The production, controlled by the Fairtrade Foundation, guarantees a minimum price for farmers and additional payments for social projects (schools, drinking water supply).
With the sales, GBP 30 million will be used for these social projects in various countries (Malawi, Dominican Republic ...).
