Household consumption of fruits and vegetables is below pre-pandemic levels in Spain

The decrease in the consumption of fruits and vegetables in Spanish households from January to August 2022 is observed in all categories: fruits, vegetables and potatoes.
Fruit decreased by 12% in volume, with a total of 2.5 million kilos for 4,371 million euros (-1%). All types of fruit except mandarins (+2%) and grapes (+9%) are decreasing in volume.
The volume and value of vegetables consumed in households fell by 15% and 8%, respectively, compared to the same term in 2021. In addition, the decrease in consumption is observed in vegetables such as lettuce (-12%), tomato (-12%), onion (-20%), and pepper (-19%), among others.
The demand for potatoes decreased by -13% in volume (964 million kilos) and -6% in value (538 million euros).
