NEPG (North-Western Potato Growers) brings together the national organizations of 4 Western European countries (Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands). According to the latest estimates, the area under ware potatoes is increasing.
According to NEPG estimates, the area under ware potatoes has increased by 2 to 3%. With a total slightly higher than the last highest area in 2020, which was 522,000 hectares for the 4 countries in the zone.
However, the area devoted to starch production and seed potatoes in the NEPG zone is declining by more than 15,000 hectares. NEPG points out that the loss of 10,000 hectares of seed potatoes this year in North-West Europe could lead to a reduction of 100,000 hectares of ware potatoes in 2024.
As far as 2023 production is concerned, the difficult growing conditions at the start of the season are likely to have an impact on crop quantity and quality.
