Spanish olive oil production shows sharp increase

Spanish olive oil production increased by 65 percent to 1.4 million tonnes for the 2003/2004 season according to figures released by the Spanish Agricultural Ministry. Export of olive oil rose by 18 percent to 632,000 tonnes, while domestic demand rose by 7 percent to 630,700 tonnes. Production for the 2004/05 season is expected to be slightly lower.
