Treaties with India and Indonesia seek to expand exports and consolidate growth in strategic markets
Peru's exports continue to increase, driven by the high quality of its products and the 22 trade agreements in force. However, there are still markets with great potential to be explored, such as India and Indonesia, with whom Peru is in negotiations to sign Free Trade Agreements (FTA), according to Julio Pérez Alván, president of the Exporters Association (ADEX).
Pérez Alván highlighted the strategic importance of India and Indonesia due to their high population and current consumption trends. With an FTA, Peru could serve almost 44% of the world's population, opening up enormous opportunities, according to the president.
In 2023, India was the fourth most important destination for Peruvian exports in various categories. For its part, Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, is key for Peruvian agro-exports, with shipments of grapes and other products worth US$61.8 million.
