Albania recorded a considerable increase in its vegetable exports during the first half of 2022.
An Albanian media announces that according to INSTAT data, for the period January to June 2022 the country imported 27,000 tons of green vegetables. That is +42.1% compared to the 19,000 tonnes imported during the same period in 2021.
Albania previously imposed certain restrictions to protect its national production, but this year imported products, such as tomatoes from Greece and Italy, potatoes and other types of vegetables, have massively entered the Albanian market. These imports made it possible to meet the needs of national consumption.
Agricultural production has decreased in the country where hundreds of hectares and many greenhouses have not been cultivated due to the increase in inputs (fertilizer, energy...) which has caused production costs to skyrocket.
