Turkish mass media inform that there are around 250.000 ha of vineyards in this country at the present moment. The average annual grape production reaches 3.6 mln. tons, so that Turkey is the fifth largest grape producer in the world. And Turkey is the largest table grape producer in the world; one third of the global production is concentrated here (around 1.2 mln. tons annually). Approximately the same amount of grape is used for raisin production and only around 30% are used for commercial purpose. To compare, according to information of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly", Ukraine annually produces around 400-450.000 tons of grape; only 10% of it suits for the sales on freshmarket.
The dynamic extension of cultivation areas of the seedless varieties of table grape in Turkey has led to the market saturation in the recent years. As a result, the prices have been staying low for several years along. The price decline led to the rapid reduction of the number of farmers interested to extend the acreage of their vineyards. At the same time, vineyards and apple orchards provide the opportunity to make one of the most attractive investments to the produce business in Ukraine.
