Current Situation in Export of Turkish Sultanas to UK
Turkey
Monday 12 March 2007
Exports of Turkish Sultanas have now reached 132,000 tonnes with UK being by far the largest customer with more than 28,000 tonnes of fruit sold to the country between September and the beginning of January. This means that comparing year on year, total exports are almost 35,000 tonnes mor this year. With the crop estimated at between 260,000 tonnes and 270,000 tonnes, this means that there is only a balance of just under 100,000 tonnes to last through until the new season. Prices for raw material started to increase on the Izmir bourse and are presently approximately $1000 a tonne. Farmers are, however, hopeful that this figure will increase $100 a tonne in the future and are thus holding back supplies.
