The move aims to reduce transport costs, ease congestion, and expand market access for Thai fruit in China.
Thailand and China have agreed to open five new import-export checkpoints for fresh fruit trade, effective September 1, under the Third Country Fruit Transport Protocol. The move aims to cut transport costs, ease congestion at existing border points, and speed up deliveries of Thai fruit into Chinese provinces.
Three new checkpoints will open in Thailand — Thung Chang (Nan), Ban Huak (Phayao), and Phu Du (Uttaradit) — while China will add two in Yunnan province, Mengkang and Taluo. This expansion will bring the total number of authorised checkpoints to nine in Thailand and twelve in China.
Officials said the agreement reflects ongoing cooperation between Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and China’s General Administration of Customs. By creating new trade routes, the update is expected to strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness in its largest fruit export market.
