The rainfall decreased by 30% compared to previous years, and CONAGUA (Comisión Nacional del Agua) declared "yellow alert" for 37% of the territory
Drought alert in Mexico, where thousands of acres are interested.
Juan José Flores Rodríguez, President of the Committe of Sistema Estatal de Productos Cítrico, estimates that currently 20,000 hectares of citrus are affected by drought. In some areas of the region of Tamaulipas, half of the production was affected.
If this situation continues, the production of citrus fruits will drop from 30 to 40% for the next planting season.
