MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) which had overtaken A.P. Moller-Maersk as the world's 1st container carrier, retains its leading position according to the latest data
According to data compiled by the specialized firm Alphaliner, as of May 4, 2022, the ranking is as follows:
1. MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) with 17.1% of the market and a capacity of 4,351,692 TEU (TEU-twenty foot equivalent) on 664 ships. The company currently has 102 vessels on order for a capacity of 1,338,486 TEU.
2. Maersk with a 16.7% market share and a capacity of 4,241,267 TEU (TEU-twenty foot equivalent) on 730 ships. The company currently has 29 ships on order for a capacity of 319,100 TEU.
3. CMA CGM Group with a 12.9% market share and a capacity of 3,285,100 TEU (TEU-twenty foot equivalent) on 577 vessels. The company currently has 54 ships on order for a capacity of 437,259 TEU.
4. COSCO Group with 11.5% market share and a capacity of 2,931,742 TEU (TEU-twenty foot equivalent) on 475 vessels. The company currently has 34 vessels on order for a capacity of 586,672 TEU.
5. Hapag-Lloyd with a 6.8% market share and a capacity of 1,738,696 TEU (TEU-twenty-foot equivalent unit) on 247 ships. The company currently has 22 ships on order for a capacity of 415,588 TEU.
