Artichoke plantations increased by 40% compared to 2010 and have raised fears that oversupply will cause prices to plummet.
The COAG Cartagena believes that overproduction of artichokes is likely after the unprecedented increase in the planted area. COAG-Cartagena said there was an increase of 40% compared to 2010.
Farmers have turned to artichokes as prices are much better than lettuce or melon. It is expected that the production of
lettuce will be down sharply in the region following previous seasons, which were considered catastrophic.
Artichoke planting was massive and "overproduction" is likely. Harvesting of the artichoke will begin in late October or early November.
