In 2022, Ecuador exported 14.4 million boxes of mango (4 kilos each box), representing an increase of 4% compared to what was shipped in 2021, according to the Mango Foundation. The increase is due to an improvement in the productivity of existing plantations.
However, the value of supplies did not follow the same trend. Sales in 2022 reached $45 million, which is much less than the $60 million generated years ago, achieving similar volumes.
Among the factors that are impacting sales is the increase in costs, which on some routes increased 35-40% compared to previous years. In addition, the loss of profitability in the North American market is exacerbated, where 95% of exports are destined, but $0.27 more expensive than other competing countries.
