From a tropical fruit importing country, Turkey has now become an exporting country to 57 markets. Over the past 3 years, its tropical fruit exports have increased by 38% in value.
According to EIB, the Association of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Turkey in 2020 exported tropical fruit to 57 markets worth $ 6.461 million. This represents an increase of + 38% compared to the $ 4.690 million generated in 2018 and an increase of + 35% compared to the $ 5.110 million generated in 2019.
For Hayrettin Ucak, President of EIB, the way to stand out in the fresh produce sector is to produce what the world demands, and moreover, tropical fruits are products with excellent added value.
Turkish professionals, according to EIB, continue to increase the variety of fruits grown and offered for export. After kiwi and avocado, the range has been extended to include dragon fruit, mangoes, papayas, passion fruit, and pineapples, among others. With the objective of further increasing exports to the EU, the largest tropical fruit consumer market.
Turkey, thanks to its geographical location and its biodiversity, is able to cultivate both traditional and alternative products and to further increase its exports, EIB said.
