The energy consumption is also higher than in the past

Swiss agriculture remains energy according to Agroscope report that analyzed the 2012 data and which has just been published.

Swiss agriculture has consumed 1400 liters of oil equivalent per hectare of floor space. More than half of the energy consumption takes the form of gray energy related to buildings, machinery and feed. 

"The calculations clearly show that Swiss agriculture is highly dependent on fossil fuels and renewable sources of energy are only a small part of consumption (6%)," said Annett Agroscope to Latsch the occasion of the publication of the results of the analysis.

Swiss agriculture, with its small structures and the high degree of mechanization of its farms, is energy. Direct energy consumption per hectare of floor space nearly 2.5 times higher than in the EU27. The large number of greenhouses and extension of livestock also contribute to this situation.
