Russia represents a significant pear & apple export market for USA: according to the Washington Apple Commission, Washington apple exports to Russia could reach 1 million boxes in 2008.
A dozen firms export their products in Russia, directly or thanks to agents, who are in charge of the transport of fruit. At present exports are slowed down by transportation and supplies. Otherwise importers could have export 30% to 50% more this year. However shipments have already increased of 80% in comparison with last season.
Russia is now the fourth largest US pear export market for US, after Mexico, Canada and Brazil.
