Colombian professionals believe avocado production could double in 10 years and perhaps exceed those of Peru and Chile.

Colombia can expand its plantations estimated it is possible to increase it from 9000 hectares to 18 000 hectares in the next decade. The determining factor for this extension remains the agreement of the United States on imports of Colombian avocados.

According to the Colombian professionals opening the American market is only a matter of time , late 2015 or early 2016 .

Colombia has a major advantage over its main competitors : the country is only 7 or 8 days of travel from the West Coast of the United States and 5 or 6 days of the East Coast. Faster transportation can deliver the goods in perfect condition , which helps conquer market share.
